I hear the frustration in this. Many people feel that concerns about reputation or norms ring hollow after years of norm breaking. At the same time, I think it matters that we stay anchored to principles like due process and evidence, even when we distrust the subject. If institutions abandon fairness because we assume guilt, we weaken the very standards we say we want restored. The goal isn’t to protect any one person’s image, it’s to protect credibility, transparency, and equal application of the law.

It might violate norms. — Already accomplished beyond our wildest dreams (nightmares).
