We, the American people, are awakening to our agency again. For too long, we were told that our voices didn’t matter, that politics was something done to us rather than by us. But something has shifted. Across communities, towns, and cities, people are remembering that democracy is not a spectator sport. It lives or dies by our participation.
Agency means more than voting once every few years. It means shaping the world between elections—holding leaders accountable, caring for our neighbors, and insisting that policy reflect compassion, fairness, and truth. Real power grows from the ground up, in the choices we make each day about what we support, what we tolerate, and what we refuse to accept.
To remember our power is to remember our responsibility. It means refusing to be numbed by endless outrage or distracted by the noise of manipulation. It means staying awake, alert, and engaged in the slow, often frustrating, work of justice. The forces that profit from division count on our fatigue. They thrive when we forget that collective action is stronger than any single vote, voice, or headline.
The truth is simple: we have always had power. It was never lost, only forgotten under the weight of cynicism and fear. When we act together—with conviction and clarity—we restore the promise of the Republic and reassert that government is not an abstraction but a reflection of who we are.
